About Judy Turpen – Speaker and Author
Judy has been involved in the art of public speaking and writing for most of her adult life. She has presented workshops, seminars and training to educators, businesses and members of non-profit organizations. Her specialties include speaking to women’s groups and inspirational presentations to churches. She believes public speaking is a “taught and caught” art. With training and encouragement anyone can become a speaker or improve their oral or written communication skills.
In order to become a public speaker one must first: “show up” then “stand up” and finally “speak up” in order to be heard. A speaker’s task is to inform, inspire and ignite others to action. One must know their audience, their venue and what’s expected of them to succeed. A speaker’s obligation is to fulfill, to focus and to leave a footprint. Each speaker has her or his own style and as long as we are true to ourselves and touch our audience we will be asked to speak again. Judy will cover the ethics of public speaking as well as practical points such as a contract, one’s dress, body language, using stories in presentations, delivery and speech preparation.
Judy recently retired as managing editor of Teachers of Vision magazine. She served on the staff of TOV for 25 years. She co-edited the revision and update of, Separate but Equal, a book on God in American history. Her love of the written and spoken word led to owning a bookstore for several years. Watch for Show Up, Stand Up, Speak Up soon.
